Tree and Marcus Landslide

This composite contains 6 images with one dating back 10 years. The base is a DroidX black and white shot of a dead tree captured last week in front of the Marcus Landslide. I then added the following images: a Flagstone tile from my patio, a field of dried flowers, a field of grasses, a rusty car door and a silhouette of a raven. (The other bird is a PS brush). Lots of blending, several color and tonal adjustments, a couple of filters applied and voila! You either love or hate this stuff. I obviously love it 🙂

Drover’s Bunk

Another DroidX shot from the Drover’s Shack at Boyce Thompson Arboretum but looking inside this time. The room was pretty dark except for light from two windows so I held the phone firmly against the window frame, held my breath and pressed the shutter.

Retro Sunflowers and Mailboxes

STOP! Back up! That’s what I yelled at Chris when I saw these mailboxes. I could have spent all morning shooting this scene but there were 3 very unfriendly dogs who became aggressive every time I got out of the car so my visions of multiple angle views didn’t happen. I need to work on becoming braver 🙂

I added a cloud image and 3 images of texture then blended the heck out them all to create the look of an old photo.

Sunflowers

Another shot of Flagstaff’s Sunflowers. A calm morning made it easier to get a sun star.

Dog Meets Droid

A dog captured at Boyce Thompson Arboretum by a DroidX. Love this camera 🙂

Flagstaff Sunflowers

If you missed getting to Flagstaff this past month, you missed the best show of Sunflowers in at least 10 years, they say. Here’s an HDR shot of one field early in the morning. I was lucky to have almost no wind.

North Access Loop

Yesterday morning, Chris and I hiked what I call the North Access Loop (of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve). For those interested, we started at the North Access trail head and hiked up Tom’s Thumb Trail to the junction of East End Trail, turned left and headed down East End to the Windmill Trail junction; turned left on Windmill and continued to Coachwhip entering the Regional Park; stayed on Coachwhip to the Pemberton Trail; followed Pemberton around crossing back into the Preserve; took a spur over to the Marcus Landslide Trail and then back to the parking area. All in all, it’s just under 9 miles. Whew! So how long did it take? Just a few minutes over 4 hours. That’s slow for Chris but darned good for me considering the elevation gains. My Crossfit training is paying off 🙂

DroidX capture at start of descent on East End Trail. See how steep it is?!

Favorite Things

A composite of two of my favorite things. Boulder faces (left) and trees. The tree is a DroidX image I captured the other day on my walk in my neighborhood and the wonderful boulder face is near the Preserve.
