Aspen Nature Loop Wildflowers

An overcast day really made the Western Sneezeweed and Larkspur (Delphinium) stand out on the Aspen Nature Loop. I added a little soft focus.

Cool Thoughts

I’m still not complaining about the heat but I don’t mind admitting I’d like to be in Flagstaff walking through the Aspens at this time! This is from a recent hike on the Aspen Nature Loop. Soon… 🙂

Common Dandelion

(I’m still sharing images from Aspen Nature Loop). Here’s a common Dandelion in its seed stage. My plan was to capture a few of the seeds flying away but it was SO windy, I was lucky to get this shot. I’ll be back in Flag a couple more times over the summer so I’ll get another chance. (Diffuse glow added around edges. Background is back-lit Aspen leaves.)

Horned Lizard

These beauties are so skilled at camouflage, you’re not likely to see them unless they move. In fact, I didn’t see this guy until a photographer friend pointed him out. My friend was setting up to shoot an Iris on the Aspen Nature Loop when he saw a slight movement out of the corner of his eye. Thank you Fred, for sharing your find!

Western Blue Flag

We’re heading back up to Flagstaff soon to catch the late summer wildflowers. Can’t wait! In the meantime, here’s another flower from my last trip. Wild Iris were such a treat to find because we thought they were finished blooming. Other names for this Iris are Rocky Mountain Iris and Western Iris.

Sego Lily

On my list of wildflowers to scout for while in Flagstaff was the Sego Lily so I was thrilled to discover this one on the Aspen Nature Loop. The wind had really picked up and the flower was in the shade so I knew I would need crank up the ISO to capture it while it was swaying. (ISO 800. Canon 70-200@98, 1/3200 sec@ f/10).
