Flagstaff Wildflower Scouting

Driving up to Flagstaff took a little longer this time because of road construction but it still went fairly quickly with no long waits. Here are a few photos from the road.

Heavy storm clouds were moving in so as soon as I got the RV set up, I headed out to scout a few locations for a Meetup I will be leading while here. I found this guy at my first stop.

My favorite places didn’t have as many flowers as years past so I headed to Lockett Meadow. The meadow was blanketed with Wildflowers! Most flowers are under a foot tall but so beautiful. It had started raining and was quite windy by this time but holding my finger on the shutter button gave me one image in focus.

The following collage was created using flowers I photographed in the meadow. Considering they were captured in rain and wind. I’m surprised any are in decent focus.

Walking into the woods around the meadow, I spotted these two scenes:

As I was viewing all my images from the day, I spotted a caterpillar that I did not notice when I took the photo. I will be looking for him and more bugs soon!

All in all, a good beginning to my second trip to Flagstaff.

  1. I find this all rather intriguing with the wilflowers coming so late in the year. What height above sea level are you at here? Because colombines in August is pretty late, even up in the mountains I would have thought.

You found a lovely array of wildflowers and the collaged photos look great (I like collages because it does make less good images look much better!).

Sorry about the rain again. Love the snake and look forward to hearing more. Have fun!

    • These Columbine were photographed at an elevation of 8600 feet (2622m). Wildflowers at that elevation are at their peak from mid July to the end of August but they continue well into September. Different species at different times, of course. Here’s a link to our species of Columbine:

It rained most of yesterday and all night. I have a love hate relationship with the rain. Mostly love though as it means more fungi 🙂
