Covering the Bases

An invaluable rule for photographers is to look up, down, all around and when they’ve done that, turn back in the opposite direction of where they’re shooting. I don’t always remember the last part when a trail is steep and difficult. I tend to forge ahead to reach my destination and only photograph scenes in front of me. But this time, I had the rule in mind and came away with two different compositions of this waterfall. Black and White thanks to Topaz B&W Effects. (Emerald Pools Trail, Zion National Park)

Virgin River Reflections

You don’t need much water for reflections. Virgin River in Zion National Park.

Shutterspeed

My meetup group has an at home assignment related to experimenting with shutterspeed. Especially long exposures can give some interesting results such as this image. It’s water splashing over rocks in a creek. The green is grass on the banks. Pretty cool.

Desert Sun Tea

After trying for a few years to give up DC (Diet Coke) I finally went cold turkey at the beginning of this year. I’ve always known that the phosphorus in sodas was especially bad for women (it leaches calcium from our bones) but every year, my bone density scans looked great so I felt no urgency to quit. I can’t remember what made the light bulb go off but I decided it was time.

Yes…I miss the fizzy BIG TIME but thankfully I don’t have to give up caffeine. My two favorite sources of caffeine are Chocolate and Flavored Black Tea from Hawaiian Islands Tea Company…not typically consumed together 🙂

Weathered

We had quite a bit of rain during our Colorado road trip. Instead of running for cover, though, I continue to shoot because the light can be great! If you look back at my Snowshoe Hare post, you’ll notice the hares are wet and the flower colors are popping. In this image, I think the rain adds to the story of how much this area has deteriorated.

Priest Gulch

Priest Gulch is our new favorite place to camp (2nd to Sedona). The campground is seemingly out in the middle of nowhere sitting right along the Delores River. The scenery is spectacular, Wildflowers are blooming, there is no cell service but they have internet…..just perfect 🙂

The Banks of Oak Creek

I love the tangles of Sycamore roots along the banks of Oak Creek especially in Infrared.

River Eggs

Roots hanging over the bank of Oak Creek – Topaz enhanced. These river rocks looked like eggs hidden among the roots. Probably not chocolate 🙂
