Backyard Playground

Endless photo ops and rock climbing available in our backyard…aka the McDowell Sonoran Preserve! Chris led me on a fantastic hike, yesterday afternoon, to Tom’s Thumb via a challenging (for me) 1800 foot elevation gain trail. It’s difficult for him to pass a huge boulder without trying to climb it which is fine with me especially when I see a rock face 🙂

Angry Bird

I don’t have it on my Smart Phone but this rock face reminded me of a very popular phone Application called Angry Birds.

Sleeping Camel Not

OK…I had a few comments which agree with Chris so here’s what I’m seeing. I guess his snout isn’t really long enough to be a camel but it could be a dinasaur camel. They probably looked different. OK…I’m stretching here 🙂

Sleeping Camel

Chris didn’t see it but to me it kind of looks like a Camel lying down with an ice pack on his head. (he’s facing to the right) A Camel with a hangover? Maybe? 🙂

Shot in HDR and a slight B/W treatment.

Cholla Animals

Teddy Bear Cholla transform after death. Reincarnation, maybe? Let’s just say I wouldn’t want to be hiking the desert at night 🙂

Sven’s Tortoise

Chris is climbing an area called Sven Tower (I) this morning so we scouted the trail late yesterday. I spotted several rock faces and one excellent rock tortoise which I named after the trail. If you look behind Chris, you’ll see what looks like dust spots but when I zoomed in to clean them up, I was surprised to see Hummingbirds!

North Access to Gateway

Yesterday morning, Chris and I hiked 7 1/2 miles from the North Access parking area to Gateway Trailhead. We started early enough to be welcomed by spectacular light at the top.

Faces, Faces, Everywhere!

Pareidolia is an affliction I don’t mind being afflicted with and since the McDowell Sonoran Preserve is filled with faces, my affliction is working overtime 🙂  Anyone want to admit they remember the cartoon character on the right?!

(FYI…You might think Chris was was pasted in but he was actually standing there)
