Forests in Motion

Check out a book I just created on Blurb called FORESTS IN MOTION. It’s full of creative blurs of my favorite subject…trees. I can’t tell you how many times I proof read this book and I STILL ended up with one typo. I’m not too worried, though, as most of us only look at the pictures 🙂

Aspens Stirred

This impressionistic photograph of Aspen Trees and Cutleaf Coneflowers was captured along Schultz Creek Trail in Flagstaff. I love moving my camera during exposure! Because I’ve been doing it for so long, I can almost predict every time what a photo will look like using certain movements. I’m often asked exactly how to do it but it really boils down to practice. That goes for any photographic style you love; macro, landscapes, etc. Practice, practice, practice like a musician with his instrument!

Forest

Aspen and Pine at Schultz Pass. I can’t help shaking my camera at trees 🙂

Aspen Stand Abstract

An Aspen Stand is a very special place. Because of the extra moisture there, you’re more likely to see lush flora and more wildlife. Not long after I shook my camera at this stand, a Mule Deer passed nearby. CLICK HERE to read a description of a stand.

Prickly

Stuck for a photo this morning so here’s a photo I took a few months ago. I shook my camera at a Prickly Pear cactus and thought the result was pretty cool!

Aspen Corner

There are several photo-worthy and easy trails right off Snowbowl Road including Aspen Corner. Not too many wildflowers right now so I opted to play with light and the trees by moving my camera during exposure.

Oak Creek Impression

Oak Creek captured hand held with slight intentional camera movement. A cloudy day contributed the slow shutter speed. ISO 100, 1/5th sec at f/32.

Liquid Sunset

There was just a sliver of sunset left by the time I was finally motivated to capture it. I decided to move my camera during exposure and I ended up with a liquid sunset.
