Monsoon Clouds

I’ve captured very few monsoon clouds this summer because we’ve been gone so much but better late than never! Here’s one from night before last. I have several wonderful saguaros in my yard so I positioned myself under one. I got out a little too late but managed to catch a little last light.

Pickin’ Time

It’s an especially good year for Prickly Pear fruit! They look so yummy that I took my friend Alice’s advice and put some in the freezer. Now to check out some recipes. There’s so much more you can do than just that jellied Prickly Pear Candy 🙂

Prickly

Stuck for a photo this morning so here’s a photo I took a few months ago. I shook my camera at a Prickly Pear cactus and thought the result was pretty cool!

Dehydrated Queen

Unfortunately, my suspicion regarding the buds on the Arizona Queen of the Night being dehydrated was correct. My friend Joni and I went out first thing this morning and although the buds were still there, some were already detached and when the plant was bumped slightly, the rest fell off. Thankfully, the plant is really healthy so there’s always next year!

Hosing Everything Down

My car window shows the amount of dirt and sand Tuesday’s monster dust storm left behind. A rainstorm typically follows dust storms but not this time so I spent this morning hosing everything down. And I mean EVERYTHING! Not just the normal things like the car, patio, etc, but I also hosed down the plants, trees, and even my rocks 🙂

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any photos of this recording breaking Haboob! Neither the TV or radio was on or I would have rushed down to see it! But…we had just returned from a road trip and I was busy unpacking, downloading photos, etc. I saw the storm coming, of course, but because we’re 1000 feet higher than the valley, we don’t see them rolling in. We just get enveloped. I quickly realized it was bigger than any we had experienced since moving here but had no idea just how large it was. Morning Face

I pass this spot almost every day on my morning walks but I had never noticed this Saguaro. Lighting is key to seeing faces in the desert and I was out a little earlier than usual yesterday OR he might just have moved into the neighborhood 🙂

Checking on the Queen

I checked on the Arizona Queen of the Night this morning and there is only a very slight increase in the size of the flower buds. From the information I’ve been reading, it seems a little late for them to be blooming but this has been a strange year. Unfortunately, I have a couple of trips coming up so I will probably miss the event 🙁

I Love Heat

It was 102 up here yesterday (113+ in the valley!) but for the first time since I’ve lived here, I’m not complaining. OK….love might be an exaggeration but I’ve really come to appreciate it over all the natural disasters the rest of the country has to endure 🙁
