Snow Day!

Taken from my office window early this morning. When we get snow, photographers run for the desert just North of Phoenix to get photos of snow on cactus 🙂

Riding Shotgun

Cleo hates riding so I provide a dark hole in the back of the SUV for him to sleep it out. His sister, on the other hand, wants to be wherever I am which means riding shotgun. She complains quite a bit….”are we there yet”….but for the most part, she tolerates the journey well. The minute we arrive in a campground, though, they’re both excited to get out and check it out! They love people and critter watching and are always rewarded with lots of both.

Red Mountain Ghost Town

Red Mountain Mining Town was once home to 10,000 people. There are still many buildings and remnants of mining left behind. These particular buildings were on the other side of the street from the mine and are being maintained by historians in Ouray, CO.

Update: These buildings are not the town but are in an abandoned Mining Camp at Red Mountain Pass. See Oct 14 post.

Turret Arch sunrise

In an effort to learn photography, but mainly as a way to see the West, I attended a lot of photography workshops when I moved to Arizona. As a result, I’ve captured many iconic scenes at sunrise such as this view of Turret Arch in Arches National Park (Oct 2001). I’m glad I attended those workshops back then or I wouldn’t have some most of my best sunrise shots!
