Fouquieria splendens

Ocotillo (Fouqueria splendens) is also blooming like crazy now too. Like Saguaro blooms, though, these blooms are tough to photograph because they’re typically too high but this specimen is a youngster I planted just last year. I was so happy to see it bloom for the first time! I used a Lensbaby to achieve the really soft background.

Lensbaby Luminaria

A composite of two images taken at the Desert Botanical Garden Luminaria this year and last. The stars (this year) are a result of using a Creative Aperture Disk in my Lensbaby which turns any point of light into the shape cutout of the disk. The kit includes some blank disks too so you might see some kitties in the near future 🙂

Lensbaby Stars and couple were both captured at ISO 1600.

Snowmen and Kittens

Snowmen and Kittens and red woolly mittens….Theeese are a few of my faaavorite things. Not the real words to that famous song and worse….now I can’t get the words and song out of my head 🙂

I Love Snowmen

So far you know I love Santas and Cyclists but I really love Snowmen! I have ones made of cloth, wood, crystal, fabric and more. This little sparkley guy is one of my favorites. He’s part angel with a pinch of devil. Shot with a Lensbaby. Not only can you isolate your subject in the sweet spot but these lenses bend light. This is great in extreme highlight situations but when you use one of the creative aperture disks on specular highlights, you get especially pretty Bokeh.

Cyclist Ornament

This cyclist ornament was shot with a Lensbaby using a creative aperture attactment which makes any strong highlights into the shape of the cutout you choose. In this case, it’s stars. I then applied the Fractalius filter to smooth down the edges. I typically apply the filter to a layer copy and then mask in what I want. Otherwise, the effect can be too strong.

Ridin’ aroun’ the christmas tree…(sing along) 🙂
