This female Gilded Flicker was so engrossed in eating she didn’t mind me moving in for a closer look. I noticed she had a crooked beak but it didn’t seem to hinder her eating. What better way to celebrate the fourth of July than downing a favorite desert! A strawberry, blueberry and whipped cream flag, custard filling and a shortbread crust lined with dark chocolate hits the spot for me.. YUM 🙂

Droid X (Retro Camera app) view of a partially eaten Prickly Pear fruit. I have been planning to set my camera up to shoot a time-lapse of critters eating the fruit but time keeps getting away from me. I’ll write myself a note 🙂

Vignette is the name of a photography application for my Droid X. I had read in forums that shooting with some apps could result in better image quality and it’s really true. Not only does Vignette give you options for creative processing in the camera but it also allows you to adjust many camera functions not available with the default camera. Things like white balance, focusing options and scene modes. On the flip side, there are some apps that reduce quality and some won’t work with full resolution images which I found out after the fact. I’ve tried several apps so far….some free…some not…and Vignette is the best so far.

The White Winged Doves have been sitting on top of our Saguaros for a couple of weeks just waiting for the fruit to ripen but they’re not the only ones who love the fruit as evidenced by this Gila Woodpecker.
