Spotted Coral Root

A short hike to Viet Springs was as rewarding as Aspen Nature Loop. Besides the same flowers seen on Saturday, we also came across Spotted Coral Root …..an orchid.

Western Blue Flag Iris

Our digital group had a photography meetup on the Aspen Nature Loop trail in Flagstaff yesterday morning. I assumed there would be very few flowers so I planned to shoot mostly infrared but we ended up photographing 15 species! Western Blue Flag Iris was everywhere. A real treat.

Blue Skies

Sunflowers from this past summer with a textured blue sky.

Seed Head

I shot this and many other images of Dandelion seed heads this past Spring with texture blending in mind. The process is very easy but success can be hit or miss depending on the type and color of texture you use on top of your image. This was one of the rare times when it worked perfectly. I love how it came together.

I applied 4 textures downloaded free from Image Abstraction and Flickr.

Retro Sunflowers and Mailboxes

STOP! Back up! That’s what I yelled at Chris when I saw these mailboxes. I could have spent all morning shooting this scene but there were 3 very unfriendly dogs who became aggressive every time I got out of the car so my visions of multiple angle views didn’t happen. I need to work on becoming braver 🙂

I added a cloud image and 3 images of texture then blended the heck out them all to create the look of an old photo.

Sunflowers

Another shot of Flagstaff’s Sunflowers. A calm morning made it easier to get a sun star.

Flagstaff Sunflowers

If you missed getting to Flagstaff this past month, you missed the best show of Sunflowers in at least 10 years, they say. Here’s an HDR shot of one field early in the morning. I was lucky to have almost no wind.

Schultz Creek Trail Aspens

This was a challenging scene to capture because the best vantage point was down a steep embankment off Schultz Pass Road. Totally worth the effort, though! Hope the color isn’t too far off. I’ve been transitioning to a new computer for a couple of weeks now and I’m not working on a calibrated monitor.
