Flagstaff Part Three

Bracket Fungus on Aspen

Bracket Fungus on Aspen

What excites me most about Fruiting Bodies is they come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Besides the quintessential mushroom shape, there are ones that look like undersea coral, antlers, stars, cups, trumpets, brackets (shelf-like), human ears (see previous post) jelly and so many more. I want to find and photograph them all! This post features some from my July trip to Flagstaff.

As I mentioned in my previous post, it was raining the majority of the time so I opted to keep things simple by only photographing with my Smartphone, Canon Powershot N and Canon SX50. Considering the conditions, I thought they all did a great job! Following are some of my sightings. (Click images to see it full size).

I’m hoping my August trip to Flagstaff will be just as rewarding! In the meantime, enjoy these and stay tuned for Part Four – Critters.
If mycology interests you, you might like to familiarize yourself with the term “Fruiting Body”. It refers to the part of a Fungus that appears above the ground and disperses spores for reproduction. For a mini course on mycology, check out Erik Nelson’s website. I’ve learned so much there! Arizona Mushrooms Primer

    • Happy you liked them, Mandy! Yes…I’m eager to go back. I’m so envious of your patience with bugs so this time I’m going to spend a little more time looking for them after I take my initial photo. I’ve been seeing many in my photos so I know they’re there!
