Monsoon Clouds

I’ve captured very few monsoon clouds this summer because we’ve been gone so much but better late than never! Here’s one from night before last. I have several wonderful saguaros in my yard so I positioned myself under one. I got out a little too late but managed to catch a little last light.

Monsoon Clouds

I shot his from my office window before a recent storm. Although it looks dramatic, the photo doesn’t truly translate how spectacular the light through the clouds was!

Welcomed Rain

We had a fantastic and VERY loud storm last night! It produced more lightening than I’d seen in a very long time and we ended up with more than 1 1/4 inches of rain which was extremely welcomed. I should be showing a photo of lightening today but instead I’m sharing another shot of flowers in the rain. I don’t have an ID for this shrub yet but the flowers sure were pretty!

Weathered

We had quite a bit of rain during our Colorado road trip. Instead of running for cover, though, I continue to shoot because the light can be great! If you look back at my Snowshoe Hare post, you’ll notice the hares are wet and the flower colors are popping. In this image, I think the rain adds to the story of how much this area has deteriorated.

Dust Storm Sunset

I remembered yesterday that I did get one shot of our monster dust storm! The sun actually managed to get through the dust lighting up this tree. Eerie! Dust was still blowing hard so I took the photo from the safety of the garage. I knew the scene probably wouldn’t last long so I didn’t take the time to get my tripod. I set my ISO to 800 and fired off a few shots. This had the most in focus. Canon 7D with 24-70mm lens. 1/50th sec at f/5.

Hosing Everything Down

My car window shows the amount of dirt and sand Tuesday’s monster dust storm left behind. A rainstorm typically follows dust storms but not this time so I spent this morning hosing everything down. And I mean EVERYTHING! Not just the normal things like the car, patio, etc, but I also hosed down the plants, trees, and even my rocks 🙂

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any photos of this recording breaking Haboob! Neither the TV or radio was on or I would have rushed down to see it! But…we had just returned from a road trip and I was busy unpacking, downloading photos, etc. I saw the storm coming, of course, but because we’re 1000 feet higher than the valley, we don’t see them rolling in. We just get enveloped. I quickly realized it was bigger than any we had experienced since moving here but had no idea just how large it was. Blackfoot Daisy

When our last frost hit, wildflowers had already started sprouting and most were knocked back down. Disappointing but there are some flowers that survived…… like Blackfoot Daisies, for instance. This one is in my yard but I’ve already spotted several in the North Access of the Preserve. We had a wonderful soft rain all day yesterday which will be great for these and other flowers still to come. Captured with 100mm macro and 25mm extension tube.

What Wind Looks Like

I’m guessing the clouds this morning are an indication how windy it is way up high.
