Pinnacle Peak Patio
Taken with my Droidx smartphone at Pinnacle Peak Patio. If you’re in the Phoenix area and have not photographed this area yet, your time may be limited because the property us up for sale. I hate to see it go 🙁

Another shot from the Big Bugs exhibit at the Desert Botanical Garden. I think this is the last week they are here and I think they are worth admission!

Here’s another photo from a recent trip to the Desert Museum in Tucson. This is a Pepsis Wasp which is commonly called a Tarantula Hawk. As the name implies, this wasp will swoop in and kill a Tarantula. I’ve never seen it in action but friends have.

Went to Camp Creek Falls this morning in the rain with hopes of seeing lots of water. We weren’t disappointed and it was fun getting wet 🙂 CLICK HERE for images of Camp Creek falls taken a few years ago.

I assisted on a Bird Walk for the MSC yesterday and when I assist, I typically only carry a compact camera since an SLR with a long lens would be too distracting. Only two people showed up, though, so had I known, I would have brought my “big” camera. But we had a great time and I ended up with an in focus shot of an Anna’s Hummingbird so I was happy 🙂

As part of the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy‘s Field Institute, we set 40 small mammal traps and 5 medium traps last night and then went back to see what we got this morning. Not even one rodent but we were very excited to find a Gray Fox! They are quite common in the Preserve. Only visual documentation was made and then we let him go. All in all, a very exciting morning!

Taken from my office window early this morning. When we get snow, photographers run for the desert just North of Phoenix to get photos of snow on cactus 🙂

I’ve posted this image here before but this is a new version of it. It was taken several years ago very late in the day with an older SLR. Not only was the image very noisy thus not printable to much larger than an 8×10 but her wing tip was cut off as was the Saguaro arm on the top left. I loved it so much, though, that every year or so I go back and work on it. Last year, I added a wing tip and also the Saguaro arm which turned out well. This time, I went a little crazy with textures. The result is my favorite edit so far! I’m going to print a 48×36 canvas.
