Desert Drive-by Shooting

Call me crazy but I love sticking my camera out my SUV window and shooting while driving. Jack Davis (artist and digital guru) was the first one I saw do this back about 2003 and I was instantly intrigued. I don’t always get something worthwhile but occasionally I get something I love. This was one of those times. I added to the left side of the image and I printed this on a large canvas and it looks great! I love the painterly look.

Thistle Textured

I enjoy photographing dried plants almost as much as live ones especially when they have great seed heads. I thought this image would look good with added textures and was happy to find one that looked a little like grasses. (check out more of my photos on my G+ page. Hiking in the Rain

Went to Camp Creek Falls this morning in the rain with hopes of seeing lots of water. We weren’t disappointed and it was fun getting wet 🙂 CLICK HERE for images of Camp Creek falls taken a few years ago.

Snow Day!

Taken from my office window early this morning. When we get snow, photographers run for the desert just North of Phoenix to get photos of snow on cactus 🙂

Big Bugs

Last night we went to Luminaria at the Desert Botanical Gardens. A bonus photo op for me this year was David Rogers’ BIG BUGS sculptures! They are amazing and great fun to photograph at night. Hand held, of course 🙂

Great Horned Owl and Owlett

I’ve posted this image here before but this is a new version of it. It was taken several years ago very late in the day with an older SLR. Not only was the image very noisy thus not printable to much larger than an 8×10 but her wing tip was cut off as was the Saguaro arm on the top left. I loved it so much, though, that every year or so I go back and work on it. Last year, I added a wing tip and also the Saguaro arm which turned out well. This time, I went a little crazy with textures. The result is my favorite edit so far! I’m going to print a 48×36 canvas.

Can you spot the baby?

Hells Canyon Wilderness

A wrong turn at the start put us quite a distance away from our intended destination but we still had a fantastic hike today in Hells Canyon Wilderness. For those who live in this area, the little sliver of water you see in the distance is Lake Pleasant. We hope to go back in a few weeks and do it right 🙂

Saguaro Faces

Found a great face on a walk in my neighborhood this evening.
