Revised Forecast

Two days ago, NOAA forecast snow down to 2000ft. Yesterday afternoon it revised to 3000ft (we’re at 2500). I’m still holding out hope for a snow covered Saguaro but now I’ll need to drive a little north of here. So…here’s another shot from December 1998. (scanned from slide)

Ready? Set? SNOW!

I’m SO excited at the prospect of snow tomorrow night! The last time we had a couple of inches (in our area) that stayed long enough to photograph was in December 1998 which is when this image was taken. (scanned from slide) If we’re lucky enough to get this much again, I’m going to try to duplicate this image. The bad news is that all the plants that have spring up in the warmth of the past month are going to get knocked back down 🙁

Holiday Lights

Holiday lights drive-bys last night. Love the Saguaros wrapped in lights!

Wintery Wonderland

We really enjoy exploring the big wash behind our property after a rain. We had a good soaking on Thursday so we decided to check it out yesterday morning. I had been wanting to go down anyway so I could photograph the Arizona Ash which are turning yellow right now but the Tamarisk…aka Salt Cedar…stopped me in my tracks. The foliage is especially gorgeous in the fall/winter when it turn shades of yellow and orange but the raindrops were a bonus! With the sun coming through them, the area looked like a winter wonderland with sparkling lights.

Unfortunately, Tamarisk is an invasive species. It loves water and grows and spreads very quickly thus choking out many of our native species like Cottonwoods. There are numerous in the wash but neighborhood property owners do their best to keep them under control.

Cholla Animals

Teddy Bear Cholla transform after death. Reincarnation, maybe? Let’s just say I wouldn’t want to be hiking the desert at night 🙂

Thoughts of Spring

Fun with Flaming Pear Flexify2. Let’s pray for a little rain and no freeze!

Faces, Faces, Everywhere!

Pareidolia is an affliction I don’t mind being afflicted with and since the McDowell Sonoran Preserve is filled with faces, my affliction is working overtime 🙂  Anyone want to admit they remember the cartoon character on the right?!

(FYI…You might think Chris was was pasted in but he was actually standing there)

Cholla Creatures

Do you see what I see? This one really made me smile 🙂
