Last Light

Our recent rainstorms, have given us the most spectacular orange light at the end of the last two days. Here’s a digital art rendition of that light. (Topaz filters)

Inspiration

My friend Howard Wood’s latest Blurb book inspired me to post one of my infrared shots this morning. I’ve been shooting infrared since the summer of 2003 and have been planning a book of my IR images since then. Howard said I inspired him to convert his first camera but he did more than just plan a book. He has produced FOUR Blurb books on IR since he started! His latest is stunning and rivals any infrared book I’ve seen. CLICK HERE to see this beautiful book on Blurb. Be sure to click to view full screen! (2005 image of McDowell Regional Park. Heart Collection

Another addition to my Prickly Pear heart collection.

Love in the Air

In search of birds yesterday morning, we came across many pairs of Cactus Wrens. I assumed they were in the courting stage but toward the end of the hike, we heard baby birds chirping as one of the adults entered a nest. Definite signs of Spring! Happy Valentine’s Day all 🙂

Convenience Food

When I come across a Packrat midden, I like to look closer to see if it’s active. Fresh cholla balls (food source) on and around the midden are typically an indication of an active midden. In this case, though, there were no cholla in sight. However, some green caught my eye and upon closer inspection, I noticed they have a very convenient food source!

Teddy Bear Cholla

Could this explain how this cactus got its name? 🙂

Liquid Sunset

There was just a sliver of sunset left by the time I was finally motivated to capture it. I decided to move my camera during exposure and I ended up with a liquid sunset.

Glochid Monster

Here’s a shot of the Prickly Pear Cactus that GOT me with its Glochids on Jan 16 as I was shooting sunrise. I was squatted down just to the right of it in order to be low enough to capture the cholla skeleton against the sky.

DroidX photo grunged up with a couple of textures.
