Tangled Web

I noticed this spider late yesterday and was mesmerized. He was repairing his web and I could hardly believe how fast he was doing it. I grabbed a quick handheld shot but didn’t have my ISO high enough so it wasn’t in focus. A little Pixel Bender Oil Paint made it good enough for photo of the day. I hope to get a better picture of him/her later.

COLD

We’re in for a couple more nights of mid 20s. Brrr. I’m betting the Gambel’s Quail don’t like it any more than we do 🙂

Captured this morning from my dining room window.

Variegated Meadowhawk

It always surprises me when I come across a Dragonfly while hiking in the Preserve because I associate them with water and there is usually none in sight! I followed this female Variegated Meadowhawk (sympetrum corruptum) for a while and was rewarded when she finally lighted and actually let me get very close.

Happy Holidays

Wishing everyone Joy, Peace and Happiness.

American Snout revisited

I spotted four more American Snout butterflies over the weekend. This vantage point shows the snout isn’t a single protrusion. Pretty cool!

Phainopepla

I’m assisting on an MSC educational hike in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve this morning. Subject: Birding. Since I’ll be on duty, I won’t have time for photos so here’s a shot of a Phainopepla I captured yesterday while hiking the Marcus Landslide trail.

American Snout

I was extremely excited to spot an American Snout on my own this morning! I first saw it flitting around a Desert Lavender (which are in bloom at the moment) but these butterflies are so small you don’t really notice the snout without binoculars or a zoom lens so I thought it was something else. Thanks to my friends at CAZBA for introducing me to this species 🙂

Warming Up

Much to the delight of Cleo and Cloe, this fence at Rancho Sedona was literally crawling with tiny lizards. There were so many clammering for a space on the fence, they sometimes ended up on top of each other trying to warm up. It was a cool morning so…..Yes…I feel sure that’s what they were doing 🙂

Captured at max zoom with Canon SX1.
