Oak Creek Collage

We spent the last two days of our road trip in Sedona camped along Oak Creek.

Gunnison River

Black Canyon of the Gunnison is absolutely spectacular and I was so happy to know you could drive to the bottom because it takes super human strength to hike down. The trail drops 1800 feet in one mile! A piece of cake for Chris 🙂

Black Canyon mostly runs East to West so along with its depth, it can be difficult to photograph. The first of Summer is the best time to catch the sun on the Gunnison River.

Last Dollar Road

I would venture to guess that Last Dollar Road is the most photographed road in Colorado! It’s absolutely breathtaking in the fall but also excellent in Summer because of Wildflowers. I couldn’t find the origin of the name but I seem to remember it had something to do with a miner. Back in the 1800s, Last Dollar Road was a trail used by Basque sheep herders. You can still see evidence of their carvings in the aspen trees.

Bagley Mine and Mill

Bagley Mine and Mill is on the edge of Animas Forks Ghost Town.

Oh Happy Day!!!

Adobe has released Photoshop Elements 9 and along with several other very useful upgrades, it FINALLY includes layers! So for those of you who don’t want to fork out the big bucks for the full version, Elements might very well be all you need. This is especially the case for phographers who primarily use Lightroom to process their images and only need Photoshop for pixel editing not provided by Lightroom plugins.

It’s about time, Adobe!

Collared Lizard

This female Collared Lizard typically hangs out in the same spot on the upper trail at Boyce Thompson Arboretum so you’re likely to get a shot of her if you take that great hike. She was in deep shade so I took a few shots and used Photomatix and some Topaz filters to bring out detail. Captured with Canon 7D and Canon 300mm lens. ISO 400, f/5.7 @ 1/320th sec.

Buddha with Flowers

I captured this stone Buddha with the specific intention of creating a montage. That was in September, 2003! Better late than never….this montage is a combination of the stone mask, a butterfly, two shots of Verbena and 3 different textures. I did also apply a texture of cracks but thought it was too harsh. It took awhile but I’m happy with my interpretation!
