Red Mountain Mining Camp

My Oct 3rd blog post incorrectly identified this area as Red Mountain Ghost Town. Although this area was part of the Red Mountain Mining complex, it is actually an abandoned mining camp that was inhabited up until the early 70s. The camp is located just off the road at Red Mountain Pass above Ouray. To give the image an aged feel, I added 3 textures.

Red Barn

This great shaped barn was made of red metal. I would have loved some close-ups of the texture, seams, nail heads, etc. but unfortunately it was on private property. I applied a couple of textures to give it a kind of postcard look.

Buddha with Flowers

I captured this stone Buddha with the specific intention of creating a montage. That was in September, 2003! Better late than never….this montage is a combination of the stone mask, a butterfly, two shots of Verbena and 3 different textures. I did also apply a texture of cracks but thought it was too harsh. It took awhile but I’m happy with my interpretation!

You Are My Sunshine

I got the idea for this montage after playing with Wordle earlier this week. (If you’ve never tried Wordle, CLICK HERE go to the website). I first searched online for the lyrics to the song “You Are My Sunshine” and then pasted them into Wordle. I combined the resulting word cloud with a flower, a ladybug and 3 images of textures. Lots of blending and assorted adjustments and here you go! I would have preferred a nice script but I never look a gift Wordle in the mouth 🙂

Tree and Marcus Landslide

This composite contains 6 images with one dating back 10 years. The base is a DroidX black and white shot of a dead tree captured last week in front of the Marcus Landslide. I then added the following images: a Flagstone tile from my patio, a field of dried flowers, a field of grasses, a rusty car door and a silhouette of a raven. (The other bird is a PS brush). Lots of blending, several color and tonal adjustments, a couple of filters applied and voila! You either love or hate this stuff. I obviously love it 🙂

Retro Sunflowers and Mailboxes

STOP! Back up! That’s what I yelled at Chris when I saw these mailboxes. I could have spent all morning shooting this scene but there were 3 very unfriendly dogs who became aggressive every time I got out of the car so my visions of multiple angle views didn’t happen. I need to work on becoming braver 🙂

I added a cloud image and 3 images of texture then blended the heck out them all to create the look of an old photo.

Favorite Things

A composite of two of my favorite things. Boulder faces (left) and trees. The tree is a DroidX image I captured the other day on my walk in my neighborhood and the wonderful boulder face is near the Preserve.

Bird in Wildflowers

A montage containing a sweet little bird, two photos of dried flowers, blowing grasses and some rusty metal.
