Venus de Tlaquepaque
I love this statue and photographed it from several angles before I finally settled on this one. I liked it because it included the bell at the entrance of Tlaquepaque. (You can find more of my images on Google Plus)

Taken from my office window early this morning. When we get snow, photographers run for the desert just North of Phoenix to get photos of snow on cactus 🙂

There’s a COLD front moving in and we’re about to have our first freezing temperatures this week. I wanted to cover my most tender (non-native) plants this evening but it’s raining. I’m hoping they can tolerate one night. Anyway….the cold made me happy we went to Luminaria on Thursday night. This photo is from last year when it was especially cold during the event. But they had these wonderful fire pits in several places to keep everyone warm.
This image was taken with my Droidx held tight against the arm on my chair.

Last night we went to Luminaria at the Desert Botanical Gardens. A bonus photo op for me this year was David Rogers’ BIG BUGS sculptures! They are amazing and great fun to photograph at night. Hand held, of course 🙂

Photographers know that light is the most important ingredient in a successful photograph. Training yourself to see it, though, takes a lot of practice for most people…including me. Doorways, such as these at Tlaquepaque, are great subjects late in the day. You might not see just how much light is being reflected on the other side but always shoot because you might be surprised! That was the case for me in these two photos. Hope your photography is full of surprises 🙂

Every year, Sedona’s Los Abrigados hotel puts on a spectacular light display called Red Rock Fantasy to benefit local charities. Last night, we experienced the best display ever! As you can see, I prefer shaking and/or zooming my camera at the lights. The varying movement of the lights is controlled by the direction I move my camera. No tripod. ISO ranged from 200 to 800 with shutterspeeds from 1/8th sec to 3 seconds. To see more images, check my Holiday Album on Google Plus. Fun 🙂

A shot from Tlaquepaque Shopping Village in Sedona. I challenged myself to do some architecture which is definitely a struggle for me! For more images, check my Google+ page. If you don’t see the post, just click on “photos”, see all albums and look for Arizona.

Every year at this time, Flagtaff’s Little America Inn hangs a million lights in their trees. Here’s one of my interpretations. If you enjoy light displays, it’s worth a drive up! The display continues through Jan 1.
