It has been really hot but Cleo and Cloe love it! It doesn’t make sense to me since they have fur coats but they like to lay out in their enclosure or on the warm concrete floor in the garage all day. At night, they are forced to endure air conditioning 🙂

It hasn’t really rained much but that hasn’t stopped the mushrooms from popping up everywhere. I spotted these two early this morning and meant to go back for my photo today but got side tracked. At least I made it before the end of the day.

I was reminded, yesterday, of my first trip to Waterholes Canyon and thought I’d post a photo (scanned from slide) from that trip. It was taken in 1998 during an Arizona Highways Workshop to Northern Arizona. The guy taking a nap is our leader Jerry Sieve. He was really nervous that day because there was a definite threat of rain. Slot canyons are a dangerous place to be during a rainstorm so Jerry told us if we heard any thunder, we would be leaving immediately!
It was my first experience with slot canyons and I was blown away by the experience. However, my experience pales in comparison to Chris’ first trip there earlier this year. He had quite an adventure! CLICK HERE to check out some of his images from his trip.

I’ve captured very few monsoon clouds this summer because we’ve been gone so much but better late than never! Here’s one from night before last. I have several wonderful saguaros in my yard so I positioned myself under one. I got out a little too late but managed to catch a little last light.

Yet another shot of Cutleaf Coneflower.
Aug 23
This impressionistic photograph of Aspen Trees and Cutleaf Coneflowers was captured along Schultz Creek Trail in Flagstaff. I love moving my camera during exposure! Because I’ve been doing it for so long, I can almost predict every time what a photo will look like using certain movements. I’m often asked exactly how to do it but it really boils down to practice. That goes for any photographic style you love; macro, landscapes, etc. Practice, practice, practice like a musician with his instrument!

I don’t have an identification for this little guy yet but I do know it is a Skipper. It’s the only one I noticed while exploring up at Schultz Pass and he was gone in a flash so I’m happy to have at least one shot. Canon 180mm Macro lens. ISO 400, 1/1000 sec, f/10. Probably my favorite lens.
