Greasewood Flat

An infrared HDR capture of the entrance to Greasewood Flat….a famous hangout for bikers (as well as families) and a really fun place to photograph! Although there is a lot of grease in their food (good, though!), the name doesn’t refer to that. Greasewood is a common name for the Creosote Shrub. (There’s another species of shrub nicknamed Greasewood but it doesn’t grow in our area.)

The Arboretum at Flagstaff

Our Spring hasn’t even started and I’m already thinking about Flagstaff in the Summer! Once the weather heats up here and our Wildflowers are gone, we only have to drive two hours to experience mountain flowers. One of my favorite places to visit up north is the Arboretum at Flagstaff. There are 200 gorgeous acres of Pine Forest that hold many interesting themed gardens, a huge pond, trails, buildings and even a Raptor show. Lots to photograph! (Infrared capture with channel swapping to introduce false color.)

Red Mountain Mining Camp

My Oct 3rd blog post incorrectly identified this area as Red Mountain Ghost Town. Although this area was part of the Red Mountain Mining complex, it is actually an abandoned mining camp that was inhabited up until the early 70s. The camp is located just off the road at Red Mountain Pass above Ouray. To give the image an aged feel, I added 3 textures.

Red Barn

This great shaped barn was made of red metal. I would have loved some close-ups of the texture, seams, nail heads, etc. but unfortunately it was on private property. I applied a couple of textures to give it a kind of postcard look.

Red Mountain Ghost Town

Red Mountain Mining Town was once home to 10,000 people. There are still many buildings and remnants of mining left behind. These particular buildings were on the other side of the street from the mine and are being maintained by historians in Ouray, CO.

Update: These buildings are not the town but are in an abandoned Mining Camp at Red Mountain Pass. See Oct 14 post.

Atlas Mine

This was one of a few buildings standing around the Atlas Mine on Yankee Boy Basin Road. Shooting in the middle of the day isn’t ideal but who could pass up this Aspen show! (HDR and Photomatix came to the rescue).

Bagley Mine and Mill

Bagley Mine and Mill is on the edge of Animas Forks Ghost Town.

Greenhouse
