Marcus Landslide Rocks!

The boulders in and around the Marcus Landslide trail are humongous! Just compare these with the Paloverde and the giant Saguaro growing among them. Construction on a new North Access parking lot starts soon and this trail is expected to be officially opened in the Spring of 2012. Because it is relatively easy hiking with spectacular views of the Superstitions and Mazatzals and has incredible geology, I predict it will be one of the most popular trails in the Preserve.

Fleabane Textured

Fleabane captured at the Flagstaff Arboretum and then grunged up in Photoshop with a few layers of textures. A truly easy process! Here’s a sample of the many free tutorials available on the web: Photoshop Texture Tutorial. If you really enjoy this stuff, you might want to consider taking one of Carol Leigh’s Montage Workshops.

Saguaro Blur

I haven’t shaken my camera yet this month so here’s a blurry shot of a Saguaro. I used Singh-Ray’s Vari-ND to get a slow shutterspeed. It’s a pricey filter but if you like smooth waterfalls or photos like this Saguaro, it’s invaluable.

Early Morning

View of Superstitions from Marcus Landslide Trail captured yesterday morning.

Sunset Ride

The rider didn’t quite make it to the top but his riding skill was impressive non the less! This is near the junction of the Tom’s Thumb Trail and East End Trail. One of our many favorites for a sunset hike.

They Came From….

During a recent hike with a friend on a dark, overcast day, we rounded a corner and saw this scene. My friend saw dead Cholla while I saw creatures from Outer Space 🙂
