Plants from a nursery almost always come with extras in the pot. I usually pluck them out but in this case, I got lucky with this little Verbena. It looks really pretty surrounding the barrel cactus. Spread your little seeds, Verbena!

I’ve been seeing lots of Spicebush Swallowtails but have yet to get a shot with wings spread. This was taken hand held with my point and shoot.

Ocotillo (o-ko-tee-yo) leaves captured last night as the sun was setting. As they dry out, they’ll turn yellow/orange which will look even better at sunset. I hope I don’t miss it.

The center of the Golden Barrels is like a bed of wool and I think the Sphinx moth has considered it a good place to hide out until the sun goes down.

The butterflies and moths must have told each other about our Lantana because I’ve never seen so many show up! Yesterday the plants were covered with Painted Ladies and among them I saw this guy. Finally a chance to catch the color on the wings of this Sphinx moth.

The common name is Hedgehog but this is not the local native so I have no idea what color or how large the bloom will be. I’m guessing it will be something showy but of course I’ll post a photo of whatever it is when it shows up.
