a closer look
I was on the hunt for macro subjects yesterday and found this wonderful dried flower. No identity yet. It was about 3/8ths inch wide.
red sky at night
The rhyme held true this week; still no rain. Dreams of Spring Wildflowers are beginning to fade.
free education
The McDowell Sonoran Conservany (MSC) conducts public hikes every Saturday and Sunday. Typically, one hike is educational (thus shorter) and the other is more exercise oriented. Today’s was educational covering the history of Brown’s Ranch. Hike leader, Len Marcisz, spoke of some very colorful characters! Along on the hike was MSC Steward Alice Dimetra (above). She gave a lesson on two yuccas and how every bit of it was put to use by the native peoples of the past.
outreach
A shot of the MSC outreach table at the Fountain Festival of Arts and Crafts. It’s one of the largest shows of the year but unfortunately, they put all the non-profits at the very end of a side street so we didn’t get a lot of traffic this morning.
Gateway
MSC Stewards and volunteers gather to hear about and see the progress on the Gateway access to the Preserve.
Below we’re given an explanation of the Rammed Earth process used in the building of the trailhead structure.
life is good
Cloe continues to take really good care of her brother Cleo.
(I’ve missed a couple of photo days due to re-organizing my digital darkroom)
desert hikes
When most people think about a desert, they don’t picture the scene you see above. But this is the very special Sonoran Desert which (in our area) is very lush even in winter. I can never get enough of it!
playing in photoshop
I think Yucca threads are really cool so I’m always trying to capture a good shot of them. A little drama was added using Photoshop.
share the trails
Hiking in the Brown’s Ranch area of the Preserve yesterday afternoon, a photographer friend spots a Tarantula. He suggests I put Chris in the photo too. So I did 🙂
