condor sighting

After many trips to the Grand Canyon, I finally saw a Condor! My trusty little Canon SX10 brought
him in for a closer view. I noticed the hikers in the background and moved till I got this fun shot.
The Condor wasn’t really looking at them but it looks like it doesn’t it? He was just preening 🙂

Canon SX10 zoomed in to equivalent of 560mm. A super sunny day allowed for a fast shutterspeed.

During the middle of the day, I’ve been enjoying playing with HDR. Here are two more images.

Sycamore on Oak Creek – 3 shot HDR – Because of wind, the leaves were overlapping so I applied Topaz Simplify.

Grand Canyon Train – 3 shot HDR shot with Lensbaby G3.

While I’m sightseeing, resting and playing in Photoshop, Chris is hiking Rim to Rim to Rim with a couple of friends.
Note that the link describes the trip as taking 5 or more days. Chris is doing it in two. Different strokes 🙂

water and woods

A night and morning in Sedona gave me opportunity to spend a little time shooting reflections in Oak Creek.

First is a3 exposure HDR taken with Canon G10.

Second is a straight shot of current ripples, also taken with Canon G10. I enhanced with Topaz.

On to the Grand Canyon but stop at the Museum of Northern Arizona to hike the wonderful trail there.

Two Infrared shots of Ponderosa Pine along trail at Museum of Northern Arizona. Shot with converted Canon 5D.

cicada symphony

Ahhhh….a cool breeze rustling the leaves of towering sycamores and the sound of a Cicada symphony.
You normally don’t see the Cidadas but this guy had either just emerged or was on his last breath.
Either way, he was a fun photo op. His colors were amazing so I decided to run him through Topaz.

raining aspen leaves

Today’s image was taken in early October, 2003 in Utah. That was an excellent year for color!
While driving down a road in a rented Subaru, it started raining aspen leaves. I put a few under
the wiper blades for a fun shot. There probably won’t be this much color at the Grand Canyon.

Captured with a Canon 10D and a 15mm lens. ISO 200, f/6.7 at 1/125th sec

I added a section of this image as a banner on this blog. The other two images are from Sedona.

bad news, good news

The bad news is that I have the flu and I have to delay a photo trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
The good news is that I’m still planning to pack the kitties in the RV and head out with Chris later this week.
Probably no hiking, and I might be confined to the RV, but I can shoot out of the windows 🙂

Backyard sunset a few weeks ago. Shot with Canon G10.
