Cloride, Arizona has a really fun barbed wire fence at the edge of town. Intertwined in the wire are
pots, pans, broken bottle necks and every rusty thing you could imagine. We could have stayed all day!

Searching for ghost towns, we encounter some extraterrestrials 🙂
Oatman, Arizona was exactly what we hoped for although we arrived late so the mules had left. We’re going back.

Here’s one last shot from the Wallace Desert Garden (no relation). Stapelia gigantica flowers
smell like carrion hence the common name. They look a little like starfish on rocks at low tide.

The Wallace Desert Garden is the legacy of H.B. Wallace who offered it up for the study of
desert plants among other things. He has passed away and unfortunately because the 18 acre
garden is in a gated community, it continues to be a struggle to raise money to keep it going.
Check out this link for his bio. He obviously loved the desert.
This is by far the best Saguaro face I’ve seen so far. Not only does it have a fabulous crest
but it is obviously a very old guy since there are arms growing out of the crested area.
It was at the private garden I visited on Saturday.

Prickly Pear cactus fruit came early and didn’t last long because of a lack of rain.
I took this image yesterday in a private garden which obviously doesn’t allow Javelina 🙂

OK….maybe not too much of a chill but the air is definitely different!
Only 4 percent humidity yesterday. Fall has begun…..hurray 🙂

Another shot from last year at the West Fork Trail in Sedona.
Topaz Adjust and Simplify used for a quick artsy look.

Another Aspen abstract from last Sunday’s shoot in Flagstaff. It reminded me of needlework.

Yesterday the gates were fitted to their openings. Once fitted, they’ll be taken back down so they
can be be powder coated for protection. (color will be similar to the angel at the right).
Each is a work of art by Joan Waters who thoughtfully went through my photo of the day images
and used animals, petroglyphs and plant shapes she found in my photographs. Thanks, Joan!

It took several tries but I finally got some sparks to show (a little anyway).

I didn’t have a photo in mind for today but if I go out in the yard, I usually find something.
These were an extra special surprise! Being night bloomers, I don’t always get there in time.

This is a Cereus hildmannianus aka Peruvian Apple Cactus. Birds love the apple sized fruit.
To compensate for low light, I shot 3 exposures (hand held) and combined them with Photomatix.
