This was the icon I chose for my identity on my new lime green Windows 7 X64 laptop.
(For my non cat saavy friends…the icon is the famous Japanese Welcome Cat)
After spending almost two days trying to get the system to work smoothly, and a couple
of hours with tech support, it is sadly now on its way back to Dell. I don’t blame Win7,
though. It was clear that the computer was not configured properly. I think I will wait
for USB 3 before I try again (thanks for the tip Barry).
A favorite from my archives, this was taken while walking with a Canon PowerShot past a large
shrub covered with lights. I swung the camera up, down and around. Exposure was 1.6 seconds.
I see faces in other places than the desert. On a trip to Boyce Thompson Arboretum, we yelled FACE! at the same moment 🙂
Hay Face shot through the windshield.
1. Look for a small quiet neighborhood light display and ideally have someone else drive.
2. Find a display you like and stop the car. (cul de sac streets are safest)
3. Set your camera to its lowest ISO and largest f/number (usually f/8 on compacts).
4. Compose your picture. Then pre focus by pressing the shutter half way down.
5. Ask your driver to start moving VERY slowly.
6. Press and HOLD the shutter button down and keep holding til you’re past the display.
7. Repeat these steps until you get something you like or until someone calls the police 🙂

TIP: If your image has more movement than you like, adjust your aperture to a smaller number.
These amazing eyes belong to a female Eurasian Eagle Owl we saw at the Flagstaff Festival of Lights last month.
I didn’t get her name but she’s a friend of the Flagstaff Arboretum’s male Eagle owl, Malachai.
They are often mistaken for eagles since their wingspan can reach 79 inches. That’s nearly 7 feet!!!

Great hike to Bell Pass with my friend Barry yesterday. A tough 6.4 mi with 700 ft gain.
Very overcast (god’s diffuser) but that’s when color pops like with these Barrel cactus growing out of the rocks.
Overcast days are the time to exclude the sky and point your camera down to find color like this Lichen.
Just when I thought I had seen all the faces on the main part of the Tom’s Thumb trail,
I find this great one. Afternoon light might explain why I hadn’t noticed it before.
There’s no need to turn on the weather channel to know it was very windy a few days ago 🙂
