Sparrows enjoying Saguaro fruit.
hot
Yes, it’s hot this week. We had 106 but the valley had 112!
We, the cats and desert adapted plants (like this variegated agave) are hanging in there.
bobcat butts
We have a lot of wildlife up here and I’ve had luck capturing many animals but not Bobcats!
Almost every photo I have is of their butt as they’re leaving. Last night was no exception.
I’ll have another chance but will I be ready? Probably not 🙂
(captured through the kitchen window with a Canon S5)
saguaro fruit
When Saguaro fruit is ripe, it literally explodes. This spews seeds everywhere. We’ve never witnessed it but I keep trying to catch it. The fruit is delicious and to this day is harvested by the Tohono O’odham. As you might imagine, it’s very difficult to reach. Click here to learn more about the process.
Or click here for an excellent video of the process.
Follow-up: Our mouths were watering after viewing the video so Chris found an old tree stake just long enough to knock off a few fruits. They were delicious! We’ll be eating more in the next week 🙂
killer tomatoes
Our favorite tomatoes (vine type and cherry tomatoes) turn out not to be included in the
salmonella scare so I felt safe buying these yesterday. I thought about it briefly, though,
because it was Friday the 13th 🙂
Shortly after taking this photo, I ate two with some blue cheese dressing (yum!).
This morning I’m fine. Whew!
who’s watching who
Who is watching who? Either way, it’s fun watching them interact 🙂
(Same lizard as yesterday. Captured with Canon S5)
in their dreams
So near and yet so far! Lizards come to the doors often but I never quite get the shot.
I loved the cat’s silhouettes in the photo, though, so I played on that in Photoshop.
Below is the original shot with a Canon Point and Shoot.
target practice
Someone’s target practice becomes my yard art and now a photo target for me!
This morning I noticed interesting shadows and found the scary owl face below.
desert spiny lizard
I’m fairly sure this is the common Desert Spiny Lizard which I can always count on for a quick photo of the day 🙂
native bee
A tiny native bee captured at the Desert Botanical Garden yesterday. Their bodies are a fluorescent blue green which didn’t show up at this angle. (hand held, f2.8, Canon 24-70mm at 70mm with a 25mm extension tube)
