cottonwoods and rock art
We have electricity and a wireless connection but at 1MB per second, I’m not posting as many as I planned.
Canyonlands after dark
Some petroglyphs are well marked and easy to find.
Some are not. The hidden ones are a treat to find!
Cottonwoods were at their peak in Canyonlands. Here’s my favorite infrared shot.
Shay Canyon is one of my favorite rock art sites. A trail along a cliff with non stop petroglyphs for about 1 half mile!
Many more to share but with this connection, I’d be here all morning! For my friends with dial-up…I feel your pain 🙂
the canyon in a different light
A couple of shots at the Grand Canyon in infrared.
Lookout Studio
Tunnels on Bright Angel Trail
Shot with Infrared converted Canon 5D and Canon 17-40mm lens.
water and woods
A night and morning in Sedona gave me opportunity to spend a little time shooting reflections in Oak Creek.
First is a3 exposure HDR taken with Canon G10.
Second is a straight shot of current ripples, also taken with Canon G10. I enhanced with Topaz.
On to the Grand Canyon but stop at the Museum of Northern Arizona to hike the wonderful trail there.
Two Infrared shots of Ponderosa Pine along trail at Museum of Northern Arizona. Shot with converted Canon 5D.
Disclaimer: editing on a laptop 🙂
toms thumb trail awaits
I shot this infrared image of Prickly Pear Cactus yesterday afternoon. The nub at the top
of the mountain is Tom’s Thumb, one of my favorite destinations. The hike up is too hot
for me in the summer so I’m really looking forward to some cooler weather.
(JF: this was supposed to be a scheduled post but it didn’t work)
1 scene 3 ideas
Ansel Adams said that the key to good photography is visualization. It really does make a difference
if you have a definite goal in mind for a photograph. At the Flagstaff Arboretum, there’s a bench tucked
in a little Aspen grove. It’s a scene I can’t resist. The last time I shot it, it was surrounded by Columbine.
This time, the light was a real challenge so I shot it with three ideas in mind.
The first is an HDR which means I took 3 shots to capture the best in the highlights and shadows.
I then used Topaz Simpify 2 to knock down the edges and add a little more color.
The second shot is in Infrared which always works well in bright light.
The third image is an abstract. It’s the result of intentional camera movement and my favorite way to shoot.
I plan to go back the last weekend in September when I hope to find the Aspen in full fall color.
110 degree daydream
Cooler temperatures and maybe even a little rain coming this weekend so I daydreamed a little 🙂
the general store
A few miles down the hill from us is The General Store. A somewhat historical building since it was the
first store built up here. It’s now surrounded by three shopping centers and has changed hands over
the years but it’s still full of charm and a wonderful photo op! I haven’t shot Infrared in awhile so on
my way to Home Depot yesterday, I decided to run in and take some quick shots.
The General Store is located on the Southwest corner of Pinnacle Peak and Pima Roads.
saguaro dreams
It’s a great year for Saguaro blooms. Here’s an infrared shot taken on Dynamite Rd between Pima and Scottsdale.
cats, infrared and lensbabies
You don’t actually “walk” a cat. You “follow” a cat. This makes for a lot of very slow moving and sitting while they stalk lizards. The positive is the time it presents for reading or for playing with my camera. I am trying to get inspired to use my Lensbaby more and also shooting more infrared so here is a shot with both implemented.
