This may be a warning for sailors but a morning red sky is good news for the desert!

promise of rain
Some cool clouds this morning and a promise of rain. We can hope!
(Canon 5D-IR, Canon 50mm 1.8 lens)
monsoon
The Monsoon gives hope of rain almost every afternoon but so far not a drop. This quick shot from last night (Canon S5 ) needed a lot of help so I opened it in ACR, converted it to 16bit and opened it as a smart object. I then manipulated the heck out of it to give it more of an impending rain look 🙂
Here is the original.
overcast
This eerie sun and clouds turned out to be a result of a fire about 40 miles away. Over 1000 acres of brush, mostly Tamarisk (Salt Cedar), were burning in the Salt River bed. These trees produce a really dark smoke.
moon illusion
Last night we witnessed a summer moon illusion. The illusion is that it appears extra large.
My question is if everyone sees it (including astronauts) isn’t real? 🙂
(Canon 40D, 100-400mm, 2x extension tube)
48 degree flower
It was 48 degrees this morning but this Echinopsis still managed to bloom! It was also raining so this is a quick handheld shot at ISO800. Yes…an external light source would have been a good idea.
that cloud looks like a…..
Fluffy clouds are a rarity here so I enjoy shooting them when they show up. Continuing to stare through my lens makes me see all kinds of things 🙂
Frost cloth
Heavy frost covers the sheets I used to cover some of the more sensitive plants. There is also ice in areas. According to the weather service, there’s only one more night to worry about.
Coyote Buttes Wave
My video clips from our hike to the Wave are on YouTube.

It’s about 9 minutes of riveting adventure 🙂
Northern Arizona Photo Adventure
When we left the trailhead, it was very cloudy but we kept good thoughts and were rewarded
with some moments of sun and extreme blue skies. Then it started spitting snow which cut our
visit very short. I mainly shot movies.
So….what’s worse? Hiking to the Wave in the heat or worrying about getting out during a snow storm.
Tough call 🙂
