Another high dynamic composite (HDR) shot from Tlaquepaque….this time a little stronger tonemapping. If you like creating artsy stuff from your images and your budget can handle $99, then I highly recommend Photomatix Pro. (I’m playing lately because I am giving a presentation on the program at my digital group next month).

Mexican Palo Verde
This Palo Verde (Parkinsonia aculeata) is also called Jerusalem Thorn. It has green bark like other Palo Verdes but it also has thorns on the bark. The leaves are more willow like and the blooms typically have one orange petal. Beautiful. It is not native but is trying hard to be 🙂
photo buddy
Jerome is another wonderful photo op. Here’s Chris being his usual patient self as I photograph. You usually don’t see him sitting so he must have already hiked to the top of the mountain and back 🙂 (Another HDR)
day trip
Took a day trip to Jerome and Sedona yesterday. Tlaquepaque shopping village is a wonderful photo op. This image is a combination of 5 images capturing all the shadow and highlight information. I used Photomatix Pro 3 to combine the files.
helicon focus
I used Helicon Focus to blend 7 images that were focused gradually from front to back. The software works pretty well but does need some tweaking sometimes.
fall is in the air!
This Janusia vine had more blooms this year than any since we’ve been here as is evident by all the winged fruit on them now. Look for it when you’re hiking in the Preserve! A fall color shot if I ever saw one 🙂
eeewww!
A troupe of Agave Snout Weevils have killed both of my variegated Agave Americanas. The scenario was just like I learned in my desert landscaping class. By the time you see the brown spots and then see the holes, it’s much too late.
wishbone bush
The flowers on this Desert Wishbone Bush (Mirabilis bigelovii) a few steps from my back door are only 1/2 inch across. I thought it only bloomed in Spring so I was surprised to see it blooming for the past couple of days. The flowers wilt after the sun comes up so this was shot in the shade (with my Canon S5).
Coming soon!
Coming soon to the bookstore at the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy. A small Photo ID guide to flora in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve (sized for your backpack). Profits go to the Conservancy. Stay tuned!
eye candy
Our native Fishhook Barrel (Ferocactus wislizeni) is also known as Candy Barrel Cactus. Blooms range in color from this yummy brilliant red to yellow.
