luminaria at tlaquepaque
Here Chris is lighting a luminaria in memory of a couple of friends who died this year. The rain held off but with wind gusts 25-30mph, all the luminaria didn’t stay lighted very long.
my new 560mm lens
If you’re looking for a compact camera with a long zoom range, look no further than the new Canon SX10 IS. It has an amazing range of 28-560mm! This shot of the moon was taken hand held which I did intentionally to see how it would perform. Pretty impressive, I think. Click on the thumbnail below to see more specifics.
rammed earth
The Gateway Trailhead for the McDowell Sonoran Preserve is well under way. It’s being built with rammed earth walls using materials from the excavation of the site. How very green! The entire project is indeed very green and the brainchild of acclaimed architect Phil Weddel. It’s a fascinating process to watch.

I can’t resist taking photos of a heart shaped Prickly Pear pads. Photoshop added a little more fun to it.

I’m seeing more and more faces lately which just means I’m hiking more among the boulders 🙂

A sequence of shots showing the fun you can have photographing in low light. The first image was a straight shot holding the camera as steady as I could. The rest are a result of shaking and slightly moving the camera in multiple directions. I wouldn’t say I never use a tripod but photography is so much more fun without it 🙂

The Desert Botanical Garden’s Luminaria is extra special this year with an exhibit of Chihuly glass. I spent two hours shooting mostly abstracts because it was so dark but did manage to get a couple of normal shots such as the one above. Below is an abstract of Scorpion Tails that were throughout the garden.
rock climbing in the preserve
Enjoyed a great hike to Tom’s Thumb yesterday. Along the way, we saw these guys traveling a different route. Red shirts make photographers happy since they add instant contrast to the photo especially in the case of this dull overcast day. Thanks Mr. rock climber 🙂
