steel boulders

It took 2 years of trying to make things grow before I gave up and decided to grow boulders
and yard art instead. Here’s a photo of some steel boulders I asked my artist friend Joan Waters
to make for me. They serve two purposes. The first is to hold back the bank and the second
is to look cool! During the last month, I noticed that as the sun was rising, it was “kissing” the
tops of the boulders. With a little help from Photoshop, this is what I was seeing.

rusty roadrunner

Like Bobcats, Roadrunners are very camera shy. They rarely stand still so I was really excited yesterday
when I saw one standing on one of the newly placed boulders. Doubly excited because, coincidentally,
I had placed a rusty roadrunner at the base of that boulder the day before. What a cool shot!

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get my camera fast enough so I ended up getting a shot of the shadow
cast by the rusty roadrunner. Not as exciting as the real thing but I like it!

yard art

My insect proof Ocotillo arrived yesterday. Look closely and you’ll see that it’s made from railroad spikes. Pretty cool, huh?! Metal artist/sculptor, Kevin Caron is responsible for this genius idea. Click on his name to see his other phenomenal work. By the way, the birds have already tested it out and found it worthy of resting a spell 🙂

yard art

Still playing with my Lensbaby, here’s a shot of one of my yard’s dragonflies. I spotted these in Madrid, NM last fall and I’m a sucker for yard art made from recycled items. Every yard deserves something tacky 🙂

This was also shot is harsh light conditions. To make the dragonfly stand out, I converted the image to black and white and kept a little color. If you’re thinking of acquiring a Lensbaby (Jim), I highly recommend that you try the various models before you buy…specifically the G3 and the newest model, the Composer. I own them both but I much prefer the way the G3 works. Of course, that could be because I love the original. The Composer is great too, though, so if your budget can handle it, get them both! Canvas your friends for LB owners and try before you buy!
