New Mexico Thistle (Cirsium neomexicanum) is just as beautiful in dried form as it is when blooming! Shot before sunrise this morning on the Marcus Landslide Trail. Even at 5am, it was very hot.

Oh, but it was hot this morning! 74° overnight, and 114° down at the garden this afternoon. My heat pump just shut off at 10:30 after running constantly since about 2PM. I’ve been sucking down ice water all day. And there’s one very stretched-out cat laying on the tile floor next to me.
I’m guessing that old Sol peeked above the horizon very soon after that shot.
